Analysis of Student Music Videos

The Good

These two music videos are both well made and have thought about how to produce the music video well. They also both have used the codes and conventions of music videos well. The first video I think is good because it has good use of camera angles using a range of close ups and wide shots and long shots. They also lip synced the music very well which is a major thing when making a music video. I also liked the mood that they created in the music video which links well with the song and gives off the correct mood that the music is trying to create. The second video is good because their locations are very good and they go well with the music. Their look is also very good as they look like they could be the singers of the song and the video therefore suits the song very well. Their use of angles and editing is also very good with the starting clip where there is two parts of the screen. Finally is that they kept up in pace with the music which is also a very important part of making a music video. All of these things I will take into consideration and try to incorporate into my music video.

The Not So Good

These were the music videos that I found to be not as good as the other for multiple reasons. The first music video isn't very good in my opinion because each of the cuts go on for too long and doesn't give  it a 'music video' feel. The music is very slow and the video is even slower which makes it quite boring to watch and makes it drag on. The costumes and locations also aren't very good as they are very simple and it doesn't look like they have thought about it very much.
The second music video isn't very good in my opinion because it is also quite a boring video to watch and doesn't have very good props, location and costumes. Also the editing isn't very good as there isn't much of it with simple cuts most of the time. Although this video is a good story and makes for a good narrative music video there needs to be more to a music video than just a story.
